Do you know these days, that from the moment you wake up, everything seems to go wrong? Well, today was one of those days for me. I woke up from the alarm of my boyfriend, about half an hour before my own alarm.
When I finally started to fall asleep again, he entered the room because he needed something. This was not good for my mood!
Long dreadful Mondays...
I don’t like Mondays so much. Is the longest day of the week (OK, I know it’s not, but often it feels that way).
Starting like this, I dreaded the rest of my day. When I got up things didn’t get better. And I noticed I was thinking: “OMG, this day is going to be loooooong, and hard, and oooohhh, I want this day to be over, but it’s only just starting...”
But then I stopped myself. I realised I was only making things worse. And that’s not what I wanted! I wanted the day to be nice and easy. I even wanted it to be amazing! So I chose to make it so.
Choose to make your day amazing
Yes, I chose to, because it really is a choice! You can choose to stay in your bad mood the whole day, or you can choose to do things differently.
Here’s what I did: I stopped my negative thoughts about the day. I just chose to not give them any attention anymore.
All is not lost
Then I started thinking happy thoughts about my day. About how I wanted it to be. Saying to myself that this day had only just started. That it could still be a wonderful day. That nice things could happen. That all was not lost because of a bad start.
My next step was to start looking for things to appreciate, things to be grateful for. Because when you look at the happy things that are already in your life, you'll start to feel happier. And when you look at the beauty surrounding you, like the sun shining, a bird in your garden, a smile from your child, you'll really start to feel better.
Stop complaining
These first steps made me feel so much better that I decided to take it further and to stop any negativity, about anything. I stopped complaining. Not only out loud, but also in my head. Any negative thought that tried to enter my mind, well, I stopped it.
Some thoughts don’t seem very important or negative, like: “I don’t have enough time to do all this”. But it's still a form of complaining, or moaning. And not helpful if you want to create an amazing day.
When people around me were negative about something, I answered in a positive way. I didn't join them in their moaning, in their negativity. This felt so freeing!
With these easy steps my day became amazing! Nothing really special happened, but I felt great. The day went by very quickly and this Monday turned out to be not that long and dreadful after all ;-)
I felt really happy! And for a Monday, this was AMAZING!
